Lautaro Cuttica
November 30, 2023 - January 7, 2024

Lautaro Cuttica was born in 1987 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of 9 his family moved to Brooklyn New York. In 2011 Lautaro graduated from the Cooper Union School of Architecture in New York. While Lautaro’s gestural strokes clearly echo the ethos of Abstract Expressionism the setting itself they inhabit, nuanced spacial strutcutres, resonate distinctily with the ideals of Modernism. To that end his education in arhcitecture proved essential to his understanding of how to shift, fold, and reconstruct the spaces replete in his painting. Yet this is merely the “opening,” to use a chess analogy recurrent in the artists vernacular, these constructions are then tested thorough gestural intervention absolved of preme- diation. Thus, his ultimate aesthetic mission surges from the action of painting itself, the resulting combi- nation creates images at once resonant yet also unnerving, bloomig wth subliminal potency. This synergy ignites in the viewer what Lautaro terms as the “spacial uncanny:” a shattering of our sensural expecta- tions, rearranged to a new cognitive poetic order. Ultimately Lautaro’s expressive will creates composi- tions which are utterly precise, or rather, he creates the structure for which a more enigmatic reality can take place. Lautaro’s work is a witness of what surrounds him and also a tragic witness of painting itself.

Lautaro lives and works in New York, New York and is in many prominent collections including Jorge Perez Collection PAM Miami, Deutch Bank Collection Louis Vuitton Collection and Southampton Art Center.
