About the event

Please join us for the opening of Ryan Bock: LICH, Saturday, October 18, from 6–9 PM. This body of work confronts how myth and folklore are weaponized across history, collapsing Holocaust testimony, America’s shifting political climate, and the recurring specter of authoritarian rule to remind us of the dangers of censorship and the cyclical nature of unchecked power.

Developed during a three-month residency in Lich, Germany, the ancestral town where Bock’s family traces back to the 1700s and from which the exhibition takes its title, LICH brings together past and present into a transhistorical reckoning. By interweaving folktales, German-Jewish lineage, and contemporary politics through fractured geometries and shadowed allegories, Bock destabilizes linear history and compels us to confront the entangled nature of memory, violence, and power, asking ultimately: Who authors the narratives we inherit, and at whose expense?
