About the event

As a group, Dot Iso is invested in the practice of durational improvisation, physical endurance, and collective focus. For this performance, the trio will perform for 3 continuous hours to prepare for their marathon performance, titled 26.2, where they will improvise continuously for 26 hours 13 minutes and 8 seconds. 26.2 takes place May 18th & 19th at Ki Smith Gallery. Hans Young Binter (piano), Che Buford (Violin), and Josh Mathews (drums) will kick off this long night of music with a set of original music and improvisations.

Dot Iso:

Dot Iso is a NYC-based trio performing mostly improvised music, as well as compositions by its members and established figures. Formed in 2021 and comprised of Vivek Menon (violin), Dylan DelGiudice (guitar & saxophone), and Orchid McRae (percussion) the trio is deeply collaborative, often rehearsing overnight for several hours of continuous improvised performance. Vivek Menon has performed on records by internationally recognized electronic music producers such as Iglooghost and Daedelus and is nearing completion of his DMA from Stony Brook University. Dylan DelGiudice performs in many contexts around NYC, including in improvised music, jazz, hip hop and musical theater. He has recently come off an international Broadway tour of Chicago: The Musical and released a hip hop project, “Urban Garden,” under the alias Bobby Del G. Orchid McRae is an active composer and performer of creative and improvised music in NYC. Current projects include the ensembles orchiddBB and 5 Ribbons. Her recent works fixate on established media tropes, theatric gestures, and humor/sublimation. In Dot Iso, the groups' members form a unique sound that isn’t beholden to any one genre’s structures and conventions. In 2024, they plan to release their debut record “I Read Too Many Things” and will perform for 26 hours 13 minutes and 8 seconds at Ki Smith Gallery in May 2024.

Hans Young Binter:

Hans Young Binter is an American pianist and composer based in New York City, working within the city's vibrant creative music scene in addition to collaborations across musical styles and artistic disciplines. Their work is rooted in the practice of improvisation, and centers itself upon core elements of music making such as conversation and ritual. In composition, they aim to explore how improvisation can uniquely interact with narrative and the notion of linear time.

Che Buford:

Che Buford (he, they) is an NYC-based artist whose work explores creating new narratives within the world of music while engaging in themes of memory and place. Che performs as a violinist in various musical settings, specializing in improvisational performance, contemporary compositions, electroacoustic work, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
