About the event
Dendarry Bakery
Dendarry Bakery is an experimental performance trio composed of Gladstone Deluxe, Mobéy Lola Irizarry, and Samira Mendoza. The trio combines Afro-Caribbean percussion, electronics, horns, strings, improvisatory Spanglish vocal performance, and childrens games to pose reflections on mother-tongues, queerness, transness, and liberation. They have presented work with Carnegie Hill, the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, JACK Arts, Universe City, and the New York Theatre Ballet.
Char Jeré
Char Jeré is a filmmaker, sculptor, and sound artist whose work critically examines the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and technology. Their interdisciplinary approach seamlessly integrates experimental videos, documentary films, sound sculptures, and site-specific installations, each piece serving as a powerful commentary on contemporary social issues. Jeré's preference for building and playing their own analog instruments underscores their commitment to authenticity and innovation, though they will strategically incorporate prefab equipment when it enhances the impact of live performances.
Ava
Ava is a multi-instrumentalist, multi-media, transsexual artist who focuses on creating textural sonic and visual landscapes. She honed her craft by playing and looping sounds performed with an electric bass and cello bow under the moniker Car Blinker Satellite. Through this technique, Ava has developed a body of improvisational and organized music that explores themes of disintegration, temporal glitching, end-time grief, chaos theory, and divination.
Together, Jeré and Ava craft intricate sonic complexities from the subtlest of gestures, blending their unique practices into a unified artistic expression.
