Glass House

Señor Melon
June 22nd, 2024 - July 28th, 2024

Señor Melon’s newest exhibition, Glass House, is designed to give viewers a glimpse into his unique human experience by way of physical form. The paintings are inspired by his state of mind during and after an isolated period. Señor Melon describes feeling “trapped,” a foreboding sense that he translates into this body of work by representing figures that are squished and scrunched inside the canvas.

Other pieces in the exhibition highlight positive and upbeat sentiments to showcase the complexities of the emotional spectrum. In this body of work, Señor Melon’s distinct graphic style collides with layers of gestural abstraction, lending texture and depth to the illustrative figures. He employs a subtractive practice, cutting into the abstraction with layers of white and black background as if working in three dimensions. Using line work to carve the abstractions into figuration, Señor Melon presents the viewer with a vivid and emotionally charged series of paintings.
