(b. 1990, Massachusetts)
Julia Powers is a New York City-based artist born in 1990 and raised on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Powers studied at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Massachusetts College of Art and received a BFA in painting. Within her theme of obsessive painting, trompe l'oeil and repetitive image-making are used to depict her studio practice by, for example, including tape and oil paint as subject matters on the canvas. Her work is heavily informed by her experience during her time as a painter for Jeff Koons. She often reproduces details of the classical paintings that she was hired to duplicate in his studio. Powers has shown work in galleries and pop ups both nationally and internationally. She currently works from her studio in Brooklyn.
