DYLAN REITZ-CRUZ

(b. 1990, New York City)

Dylan Reitz is a Dominican American artist who lives and works in New York City. Existing in the liminal space between film and sculpture, Reitz’s work explores how the natural texture and movement of physical objects can be translated to a digital space. Whether constructing silicone forms with animatable armatures, or manipulating handmade paper pulp composed of recycled sketches and letters, Reitz creates scapes of implied movement, augmented and reiterated by the perpetually looped motion of his correlating animations. Reitz asks the viewer to examine their own perceptions of time and motion.

Reitz received his BFA from New York University, where he is currently pursuing an MS in Integrated Digital Media. His latest stop-motion animation film Outside Hearing In (2017) was featured at numerous festivals including the Woodstock Film Festival, and Animation Block Party at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where it received the award for Best Narrative Short. He currently shows with Ki Smith Gallery and his works can be found in several prominent private collections.
